Published on 20/04/20

Summer Turner, Director of Curriculum at the Inspiration Trust, is stepping into a school leadership role after completing the trust’s Aspiring to Headship course. She is now an Inspiration Trust Vice Principal and will be working across our family of schools to share her curriculum and English specialist experience. Her first assignment will be at Jane Austen College, in Norwich.

Summer said: “It has been an honour to lead on curriculum with such an incredible team of subject experts for the last three years and I am very proud of the work we have achieved. I am delighted to be stepping into school leadership.

“Jane Austen College is a school which has always been close to my heart, not only because I’m an English teacher, but also because of the school’s commitment to creating a rigorous academic curriculum and a supportive, enriching community for its pupils.”

Summer is the latest graduate of the Aspiring for Headship programme to step into an exciting new role. Jane Diver has recently been promoted to the role of Principal at Hethersett Academy and Darren Hollingsworth will be the new Principal of Cromer Academy from September 2020.

Claire Heald, Director of Standards at the Inspiration Trust, said: “The professional development of our team is incredibly important and we’re delighted that Summer has chosen to pursue her career within senior school leadership at the trust. Summer has done an excellent job as Curriculum Director and has been instrumental to our English curriculum strategy. I have no doubt she will continue to excel in her new position.

“I’m pleased all of our schools will be able to benefit from Summer’s skills, beginning with Jane Austen College. This is an exciting step on her journey to headship.”

As part of Summer’s professional development she has also taken part in rigorous leadership coaching and completed secondments as an Associate Principal at Cobholm Primary Academy and Associate Vice Principal at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy.

Summer said: “I have been privileged to work with - and learn from - an array of brilliant leaders, including Christine Counsell, Claire Heald and Dame Rachel de Souza. They have sharpened my thinking, taught me immeasurable amounts about curriculum and education leadership, and inspired me to keep setting the highest of expectations for others and for myself.”

The Inspiration Trust will now be hiring a new Director of Curriculum and Teacher Development to continue with Summer’s curriculum work.
