Entry Requirements
GCSE requirement
You will need to demonstrate:
- A standard equivalent to a GCSE Grade C/Grade 4 in mathematics and English, to teach at secondary level; and
- A standard equivalent to a GCSE Grade C/Grade 4 in mathematics, English and a science subject, to teach at primary level.
If you do not have a English, maths or science GCSE then you can complete an equivalency test and if you are successful this will be set as a condition.
There are various companies offering equivalent qualifications with either an exam only service or a study and exam service. This can be discussed once we have interviewed you.
Degree requirement
All trainee teachers need to have completed a degree in order to obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). We require applicants to have achieved a degree at 2:2 or above.
For secondary applicants this should be in, or closely related to, your proposed teaching subject. As a guideline we would normally expect that at least 50% of your degree is relevant to the national curriculum subject you intend to teach. For primary applicants, the degree does not need to be subject specific.
If you are interested in applying but your degree does not meet our minimum entry requirements, please contact us so we can discuss your individual circumstances further.
Fundamental English and maths
As part of the application and selection process, all candidates fundamental English and maths skills will be assessed.
International qualifications
If you achieved your qualifications outside of the UK, please visit the UK ENIC website - the UK National Information Centre for the recognition and evaluation of international qualifications and skills to find out whether your qualification is equivalent to UK GCSEs and degrees. You will need to evidence this by providing a ENIC Statement of Comparability with your application.
